Vivaldi's Four Seasons


On Monday, May 14 the Maritime Museum presented a second benefit violin concert by Eva Weertman and students (of the Classic Foundation, the FOSHK and CCC).

This evening was dedicated to The Four Seasons, a cycle of four violin concerts composed by Antonio Vivaldi. The Four Seasons is Vivaldi's best-known work and is among the most popular works of classical music.

Sunday, April 29, benefit violin concert


On Sunday, April 29, 2012, the Maritime Museum presented a benefit violin concert by Eva Weertman and students.

In several violin solos, pupils played three parts of the first partita by JS Bach. The parts were studied to honor the teacher's birthday on Queen's Day.

The musical evening was closed by Eva Wertman herself with a violin sonata from W. A. Mozart.

With the proceeds of the concert, the students hope to be able to repair their instruments as well as being able to buy sheet music for the new classes starting in september.

Queen's Day 2012


During Queen's Day, April 30, the Maritime Museum was open all day.

During the morning Danzarte who gave three performances. On the Young Performance Art School, Danzarte Studio, children learn to discover their talents and give them a chance to freely develop their skills. Ages vary from 6 to 19 years old and come from all around Curacao and from all types of different forms of education.

"The Rich History of CuraƧao"


On Thursday, April 5 the Maritime Museum presented the first edition of two books made available by the Maritime Museum from the series "The Rich History of Curaçao".

Since 2002, the Maritime Museum regurarly publishes articles in the Saturday supplement Napa of the newspaper Amigoe, describing the (maritime) history of Curaçao. In the past 10 years more than 75 published articles are published, time to combine this interesting information into a book.

The books are composed by Jack Schellekens and issued by Carib Publishing. They are available at the Maritime Museum, the local and online bookstores. Read more...

Annual conference Rotary Club Willemstad


On Friday 6 April, the Rotary Club Willemstad held its annual conference at the Maritime Museum. This was also the wind-up of the fundraiser event "Dare to wear a beard" for which 25 men had applied for. Goal was to leave their beards during the month of March. They had to find as many sponsors as possible.

The action resulted in NAf. 52,000 that will be given to charity. More information on www.rotarywillemstad.org
